You will own and evolve a high-throughput proxy / gateway that sits between dozens of backend microservices and our web + native client applications. The service is written in Node.js (TypeScript, Express), leverages Redis for ultra-low-latency caching (no relational database), and is deployed to AWS (ECS + ALB) behind Akamai CDN. Your work will directly impact every request our customers make.
We will suggest the position with the highest potential for success when you proceed to the interview. The development areas envisioned for in-house development engineers are as follows:
・ Design, implement, and maintain RESTful API endpoints in TypeScript/Express, ensuring reliability, performance, and adherence to best practices
・ Optimize caching strategy in Redis (TTL tuning, cache invalidation, key design) to keep p99 latency in check
・ Build and maintain IaC and CI/CD pipelines for ECS services, ALB rules, and Akamai edge configurations
・ Instrument the gateway for observability—logs, metrics, distributed tracing—and participate in on-call rotations
・ Collaborate with frontend, mobile, and other backend teams to design contracts, troubleshoot issues, and plan new features

Experience
Must-Have Qualifications
・ 3 + years building production APIs with Node.js and TypeScript
・ Solid knowledge of Express.js (or comparable) routing, middleware design, and security hardening (CORS, auth, rate limiting)
・ Hands-on experience with Redis—designing efficient data structures, Lua scripting, and performance tuning
・ Familiarity with cloud-native deployments on AWS (ECS / Fargate, ALB, IAM, CloudWatch)
・ Strong grasp of HTTP, REST conventions, and API versioning
・ CI/CD mindset (GitHub Actions, CodePipeline, or similar) and testing practices (unit, integration, contract tests)
・ Comfortable with performance profiling, p95/p99 latency goals, and troubleshooting in production
Preferred skills and experiences
Having 2 or more of the following expertise is a plus.
・ Experience with edge CDNs (Akamai, CloudFront, Fastly) and cache-control strategies
・ Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or AWS CDK)
・ Knowledge of OpenAPI/Swagger spec generation and API documentation automation
・ Familiarity with feature flags, blue-green or canary deployments
・ Security background (OWASP Top 10, JWT/OAuth, mTLS)
・ Exposure to GraphQL or gRPC—even though this service is REST-first
